Southbank Printmakers
Original fine art print gallery
We have some big news! After 25 years at Gabriel’s Wharf, Southbank Printmakers will be relocating to 73 Wells Street, London W1T 3QG on 1st May.
We are sad to leave our home on the Southbank, a move caused by its planned redevelopment, but excited to begin a new chapter in Fitzrovia, which has long been a meeting place for artists, writers and makers. We will continue to champion original printmaking under the name Southbank Printmakers, Fitzrovia.
73 Wells Street is easily accessible by bus or tube
What's on this month
There is still plenty going on at the gallery at Gabriel's Wharf in April. We have a Flash Sale on Friday 10th - Sunday 12th April, from 11.30-5.00pm, where you can pick up original prints at bargain prices. You can also browse work by our Artist in Focus Maureen Nathan, whose multi-disciplinary approach to printmaking is so inspiring.
Come early to avoid disappointment as the prints sell quickly!
Artist in Focus
When you visit Southbank Printmakers you will see one of our 40 members picked out as the Artist in Focus, with extra window and browser space given to their work.
MAUREEN NATHAN: 30th March - 12th April
Maureen is a multi-disciplinary artist working from her studio in North London. Training as a painter, a module in the print room at art school was a revelation and the beginning of her love affair with printmaking. The evidence of human presence is the theme that runs through all of her work whatever the subject matter. Working across print, paint and paper, the use of differing methods and materials offers a variety of pathways to explore, with drawing being the connector between them all. Maureen works as sustainably as possible using non-toxic inks, recycled materials (household cartons, recycled floor covering), natural garden materials and compostable linseed oil based lino. Even the paper she prints on, if not found paper such as old book pages or music sheets is recycled offcuts collected from various print studios in London.
As you can see with Cluster, One Red Pebble and Memento Mori, using a variety of printmaking processes means that plates using various materials find themselves together on the press and pass through many times to produce layers, embossing and arrangements. This way of working means that many prints are individual, unique one offs!

The Boat Race
The annual Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, first held in 1829, is one of the oldest inter-university sporting events in the world.
It is a test of skill, stamina and cunning with often unpredictable weather throwing the best laid race strategies overboard.
Our printmakers have made a selection of hand-printed original pieces that embrace the visual diversity of this renowned sporting event taking place on Saturday 4th April.

Spring is here!
Spring has officially arrived with the change of the clocks, blossoms filling the trees, and some warmer, sunnier days. We have made a selection of colourful and floral prints to celebrate!
